Custom toolbars file location

According to the listing in the File Locations tab (in Options), Tools are
located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office. As I understand, these
toolbars are in a file called NORMAL.DOT. This file is not located in the
above specified folder; instead, it is in C:\Documents and
Settings\hmm\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. Why the seeming
discrepency? (My toolbars open fine; I just would like a better
understanding.)

"Tools" is not the same thing as "toolbars". (There are tons of these
confusingly named things in Office.)

Your toolbars are indeed in Normal.dot unless you chose to store them
elsewhere, either when you created them or by using the Organizer.

According to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/212220, "The path specified by
the Tools option on the File Locations tab is an alternative location for
proofing tools in Microsoft Word." I've never heard of anyone who actually
used it.
