Custom Nav Link Bar

C

Cracker Jacks

I have a custom nav link bar with 2 issues. The first is the link for a sub
web does not show up in the link bar on the preview web page (over the net
with IE) but in the local preview in FP 2002 it shows up.

The nest issue is the font in my link bars will not display in the font I
select. I edited the fonts in the theme and also tried the font through the
paragraph format.

Both Nav Link bars are in a shared border. Any sugestions?

Yes Virginia, there is a difference between Horizontal and Vertical
Navigational bar fonts..geess..ok....I fixed the font part.

But still can not fix the customized nav bar link to protected sub-web. It
shows up ok in FP 2002 preview, but does not show up in web preview..nothing
there no link no red x nothing. I tried it on a blank page (no shared
border) and I got the same result. 2 links 1 to a page within the base web
and 1 to a protected sub web (to allow a user login to the sub web). Any
ideas?

If you are using FP 2002 custom link bars (instead of nav bars based on navigation) you need the FP 2002 SE on your host server
and/or local host server to see them

SE stand for Second Edition? I will let my host know. Thank you.

Wait...SE Server Extensions? Yes they have it on there. I can view all the
custom links EXCEPT for one that points to a protected sub web (within the
same web site).

Is the link set up as an external link?

You must set it as a absolute URL.

What do you mean by absolute URL?

I tried:
http://xxxx.org/subweb/default.asp
and
http://xxxx.org/subweb

Same result, the button for the sub web does not show up but the button for
a link in side the main web (which is where the file is located) does.

I'm sorry do not click on that link, I was not thinking when I made that

I found the answer I was looking for buried deep with inside the FP 2002
Help files. It even placed the sub-web "external" web link on the existing
Link Bar. I did not have to create a link bar with customized links. It
went about in a way I never used before.

"Do one of the following:
Add an external link to a link bar based on the navigation structure

1.. In Navigation view, right-click the page to which you want to add an
external hyperlink, and click Add Existing Page on the shortcut menu.

2.. Do one of the following:

Create a hyperlink to a page or file

1.. Under Link to, click make sure Existing File or Web Page is
selected.
2.. Select the page or file to which you want to link.
Create a hyperlink to a page or file on the World Wide Web

1.. Under Link to, make sure that Existing File or Web Page is selected.
2.. Click World Wide Web .
3.. In your Web browser, browse to the page that you want to link to,
and then press ALT+TAB to switch back to Microsoft FrontPage. The location
of the page you visited is displayed in the Address box."
