Custom dictionary in Word is full

I cannot add any more words to my custom dictionary. I've deleted a number
of words from it. In addition, I created a new custom dictionary, activated
it and made it the default. I also re-started Word. But when I try to add a
word to the dictionary thru the spell checker or by right-clicking on my
mouse, a dialog box appears telling me that the custom dictionary is full so
the word couldn't be added.

Any ideas??

Word always adds words to custom.dic even if another is set as
default. You can have up to 9 dictionaries. I use dictionary names
like Jargon, Names, Technical, Internal and so on.

I tried creating a new dictionary, but still get the message that the
dictionary is full. Custom.dic is only 2mb and contains less than 50 words.
This is frustrating. Any other ideas??

Two megabytes?!

If a custom dictionary contains fewer than fifty words but
measures 2 megabytes in size, there is something seriously
fscked up with that custom dictionary. I suggest copying
*just the words* to Notepad (to eliminate any formatting
etc) and save the file as custom.txt. Trash your old
custom.dic and then create a new one from custom.txt. The
simplest way is to rename it custom.dic and put it in your
Application data\Microsoft\Proof folder.
