Custom Animations Task Pane

According to the Microsoft Office Assistance site, numbers indicate the order
in which animations play and correspond to the labels associated with the
animated items in normal view, with the Custom Animation task pane displayed.
However, my task pane shows each each with a 0 preceding it. It would be
most helpful having the numbers in actual sequential order. Is there a
setting to change this?

Charlotte,
The help isn't really clear. What the numbers really indicate is which mouse
click as you progress through the slide initiates the animation sequence
containing this animation. When you see all zeros, it means that all the
animations are set to happen without any mouse clicks. The whole sequence is
set to go automatically either "with previous" or "after previous". The
numbers in the boxes actually show which mouse click initiated sequence of
animations contains this animation.

To see this for yourself, make a blank slide and put several identical
shapes on it. Select the shapes and add an entrance animation and an
emphasis or exit animation to them. The first series will have 1's in the
boxes, the second will have 2's. Now, select just the first animation and
make it start "with Previous". Notice that the numbers on the slide change
from ones and twos to zeros and ones.

If you really want to see the animation sequence, right click one of the
animations and select "Show advanced timeline". The timeline will be much
more helpful if you are doing multiple animations automatically or in
sequence.

Does that help explain things?
