Cursor turns to black box

My cursor turns to a black box (sometimes it appears
looking like a bar code) approximately 1/2" x 1/2". Other
than that it functions normally, but this makes it
difficult to position the cursor properly. It seems to
happen without notice when the cursor goes to the far
right side of the screen. It then appears as a black box
or bar code anytime it is over an area to enter text, such
as on a web site, in Word or Excel. The only way I have
found to return the cursor to normal once this happens is
to reboot. Is there a solution that can prevent this from
happening?

You might have a corrupted cursor file. Did you try other pointers to see
if this happens? (go to mouse applet in control panel and then pointers tab)

Try updated videocard drivers(from manufacturers web site)

Try reduced hardware acceleration.(r-click Desktop, Properties,
Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting, move slider one click left and apply)
