CurrentVersion\Run key in registry not saving changes after logon

Brian

I'm having a problem saving a String to the following key:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I'm adding a string so a certain software program runs when a user
logs in. BTW, this software comes with an install program, which does
the same thing. After adding the string (either manually or via the
setup program), the string successfully shows up in the registry. I
log out and check the registry remotely from another computer, and the
string is still there. Now when I log back in, the string is missing
(hence, the software does not load). I've opened up the security
using regedt32 for that particulary key. I really can't understand
why I'm losing this string every time I log in.

And ideas? The system is Windows 2000 Pro workstation w/ SP4
connected to a NT4 sp6a domain. Thank you very much!

There may be third party tools installed that are clearing this key for you.

Take a look at Start\Run MSCONFIG this is an example of a built in program
that will clear the RUn keys for you automatically.

MSCONFIG.exe can be copied to the
Windows 2000 C:\Winnt\System directory from XP and be used on a Windows
2000 Pro or Server client.
