Crypto RSA Machine Keys Files Removal?

All,

My Windows 2000 Server was currently running low on disk space and I wen't
searching for things to remove, like Temporary Internet Files. Well, I came
across the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys.

This folder has 345,046 files in it. It has a size 0f 22.3MB, BUT IT TAKES
1.31 GB of space on the drive. I looked on google's newsgroups for what this
was for, and I found 1 article with a way to clean up this directory with
deleting the files from a microsoft security newsgroup:
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...chineKeys+File&rnum=21&hl=en#4f6934d5607e7155

Is this safe to do? Is it possibe to remove some of the old keys that may
not be used anymore and is there a way to determine if they are being used.

Thank you,
Nathan
