Right.

what do I need to add on to this cable!

Nothing.

and

No. This is a special kind of ethernet cable. It's used to connect an
ethernet NIC (Network Interface Card) in one computer with that in another.
Regular ethernet cables are used to connect computers to a common hub,
switch, or router) but if you have only two computers to connect, you can
skip the hub, switch, or router, and connect them directly using the special
crossover cable.

Look for ports on the two computers that fit the connectors on your cable.
Many newer computers have them built-in. If they are not present on yours,
you'll need to buy and install a NIC on each computer that doesn't have one.
For the laptop, you'll need a special NIC on a PCMIA card.

Once you have the hardware installed, read here for instructions on how to
configure the network in Windows:

They fit into ethernet sockets.

On your laptop you need a PCMCIA card with an ethernet socket on the end of
it, or you can get a usb to ethernet connector from your local computer
store that will plug into a usb socket.

On your pc you need a network card installed, or you could use another
plugin usb to ethernet connector, mentioned above.

And that's it hardware-wise.

There are "several" types of cross-over cables.

Ethernet

Serial

USB

The common one use is Ethernet. You use the exact same cable plus and wire
that you use for regular Ethernet cables. There is only 4 wires (2 pair) that
are "crossed" to allow the sending signals to be received by the correct
Ethernet pin.

You can normally buy an Ethernet cross-over cable at most computer stores or
Staples. They might be known as "cross-over" patch cables/cords.

Yes, and only one type resembles connectors used with a standard phone line.
Ethernet.

One type that doesn't require a crossover is Firewire. There's two
different type cable and ports for Firewire. One is 4 wire, the other is 6
wire. When connecting such PCs/laptops, but sure to get the cable with the
proper connection type on both ends. Not suggested for home LANs connecting
PCs/laptops in different rooms. Length of the cable is limited to 6 feet.
Suggested only for close quarter connections such as moving a laptop to the
same room as a PC for temporary data downloads/uploads.
