cross post-install W98 onto a USB hard drive

I asked on New Users but this seems a better place to ask so.....I have
XP on an internel hard drive and would like to run W98 with a USB2.0/IDE
adapter to a hard drive externally .
I have a cd with drivers for W98 for the adapter . The bios supports USB
HDD . Is this possible ? Can I load the W98 USB driver before I load W98 ,
I guess in Dos mode ?
Then I have to reinstall W XP .

This is not a cross-post.
This is a multi-post.

Cross-posting would entail a single post that went to many groups in such a
way that most responding would respond in all groups.

This message is re-posted to more than one group. When somone responds -
they respond here only.

I cannot answer your question directly - it may not work because Windows 98
won't be able to identify the USB drive during boot.

....... I posted in two groups and I have had a response in both
groups . cq

Yes - but they are not the same set of responses.

Cross-posting and those who choose to respond in-kind result in all
responses going across all newsgroups that the cross-posted OP is in. This
results in an easier way to check the responses and in some cases - a better
set of solutions because more people can interact to help you resolve your
issue as some people who only post in a single newsgroup might meet and
discuss with someone who only usually posts in the other group - and the
resulting share of knowledge will result in a better answer.

Multi-posting does not make the interaction happen at all - nor are the
answer(s) as easily accessed/replicated - as although the question may be
identical and asked in several places - the responses to each one in each
newsgroup is its own entity instead of shared across all for the benefit of
everyone.

If you have received an answer to your inquiry that worked - it would be
nice to post it here as well - to help those who might search in the future
and come across this individual post first.

a very late reply:

No I can not install Windows98 onto a USB drive and nor can I install
Windows XP Home Edition onto a USB drive .

I think all Windows operating systems must be installed onto hard drives
installed in a computer , and can not be installed onto an externaldevice
like a USB hard drive .
