Critical update file size question

I like to download the critical updates to my hard drive, install them
manually, and archive them to CD for future use w/o doing the download thing
again if I ever reinstalled XP.
When I check for updates using "Windows Update" the file sizes are sometimes
different than the updates found on microsoft "Download Center". For
instance: KB835732 is shown as 284KB in Windows Update and 2647KB in
Download Center. Are these the same files? Why is there a difference?

Hi

If you want to download and save the Critical Updates to CD, go to the Windows Update page and click on 'Windows Update Catalogue'. If that option isn't available, click on 'Personalise Windows Update', enable 'Display the link to...' and then click on 'Save Settings'.

With some of the downloads, e.g. SP1, the file size shown is only for the
initiating download - that file then downloads the main one.
With SP1, from memory, it's says a couple of MB, but the whole download is
~135MB, a bit misleading.

You know, I did that when I first installed XP and I do not get the same
files available there that I get if I have Windows search for updates. I
enter "Windows XP Home Edition" and get 6 files, all the same, Chinese
version, etc. I enter "Windows XP" and get 60 files and the kitchen sink.
The download files there are old, and the new ones are missing. Does not
give one the feeling of security. I do not check the Update Catalog anymore.
I can usually find the correct KB number in Download Center and usually the
files sizes match so I just feel more assured I'm loading the right stuff.
Would you care to answer my questions?

Yes, but I've had Update automatically download and install files before and
the file size listed is the same as the file download and the file on the
disk (when I go into Temporary Internet Files and fish it out to save on
CD).
Do you think that these 3 new updates (all 284 KB) are all just download
initiations?
The important question is still: is the Download Center file the same as the
Windows Update file?
