CRITICAL ERROR 101

worked fine for the first 3 days, but now will not work
at all. tried re-installing 3 times, but error message
comes up saying "Microsoft has encountered critical error
(Error 101)

anyone else experiencing this??

Yes, I tried to install this on my Dad's PC, via Remote Assistance.
Thought he had a "corrupted" download, but did a second dnld &
re-installed, and it still encounters that Error #101.
Very simple setup on his PC and cannot run down why MS_ASW
just won't run on it.
It seems like it's always the one person you want to install it for, that
always gives you the most grief. (Some unwritten Law of the Universe).

If anybody gets a handle on this I would appreciate an update, so I
can add this protection to his machine.

Can you, or Jeff, say what version of Windows you are installing, on, and
what user is doing the install?

I can see that you are installing on XP, and would guess that your dad has
XP Home--but I can't tell for sure from the post.

Hmm--your dad is probably running as Owner, and you take over those
permissions when you install via Remote Assistance.

I don't have a fix for you--the fixes posted in the groups for this issue
are: 1) Control Panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft Antispyware,
change, update.

If that fails, uninstall, and then reinstall, the product.

If both those fail I'm wondering whether uninstalling and then installing
when logged in as the true administrator in safe mode might do the job--but
that's one you can't do via Remote Assistance, I'm afraid.

I had that problem and had to run Ad-Aware first to
remove some spyware and then reinstall the Microsoft app.

I did.....Contact Microsoft Support at 1-800-936-5700.

You may have Winsocks that need removing, they'll walk
you through it in no time!
