Creative Technology update causes crash when installing

A

ann

I've run into this problem before, with another computer
and WIN2000 and hadn't found a resolution, but here
goes...I just installed winXP on my computer. I ran the
WIN UPDATE and was successful in performing all of the
CRITICAL updates. There were two drivers for my
computer, one was for my monitor and the other was for my
sound card. The monitor driver loaded fine, but
everytime I try to run the soundcard update, my computer
locks-up during the INSTALLATION PHASE of the download.
Oh...when I recover the computer, I have alot of disk
activities caused by the crash...cross-linked files,
etc.,etc.

The update is:
Creative Technology Ltd. multimedia software update
released on June 18 2002.
Download size: 44 KB, < 1 minute
It appears that perhaps the update is performing an
illegal action.

Hi All,

I have a similar problem with the updates direct from Creative's
website. When I try to install, uninstall, rollback, etc, etc, (i.e.
anything to do with changing the soundcard drivers) the system resets
itself DURING the operation. After re-booting, the drivers remain
unchanged from their original state.

I've even tried booting with a diagnostics disk, deleting all the files
listed under the driver window for the soundcard, and re-booting. The
'wonderful' WinXP just reinstates everything during start-up without
asking!

Same applies in Safe Mode.

Can anyone suggest a method to get around this, that doesn't involve
reinstalling the OS?

TIA
Stunn
