creatings hyperlinks from filenames containing special characters

When creating worksheets containing long lists of linked documents on the
network by using the HYPERLINK function, I hit a snag when the filenames
contain special characters, such as # (who would have thunk of that? ;-)).
No matter how I enclose the offending path or filename in single or double
quotes, the link is dead.

Is there a way to mask the special characters without actually having to
rename the files (which are not mine)?

Hi
AFAIK no way. the '#' sign is used for identifying a specific sheet
within the Excel file.
So renaming is the only way

Thanks; I'll bug the authors to rename the files and stick to alphanumerics,
hyphens and underscores.
