creating .netCF apps without vs.net?

I'm a newbie to .net & friends, and am wondering if I can develop .net
Compact Framework apps without Visual Studio .net. For example, my
understanding is that you can download the .net SDK for 'desktops' to
develop apps in C#, for instance. For desktops. Command-line tools,
presumably, versus what you would get in Visual Studio.

Is it possible to develop apps for, say, a PocketPC device that has the
..netCF on it, using the same SDK (plus, possibly some additional linkers or
something)?

Or do you REALLY have to have VS.net to develop .netCF apps?

yes, you can do it, detailed description and initial idea
was invented by myself and by my pal. Several other
websites copied it without giving credit... :) It is
described here:

(it was moved to this URL from http://msmobiles.com where
it was originally published)

watch http://dotnetdn.com for latest news about .NET
Compact Framework and for our upcoming announcement
of "mini-studio" - a small environment for Pocket PC
where users will be able to compile C# and VB.NET
programs inside of their Pocket PCs. Due to above
mentioned problems (copying without credit) we will not
release any details until this mini-studio will be ready.
