Hi

I'm creating a Fax template and we would like a little row of chec
boxes for the user to click into prior to sending the fax (i.e. pleas
respond, for review etc.)

I've got the forms toolbar up, I've put the checkbox on the fax sheet
now I'm stuck!! How do I go about setting it up so that the user ca
put an 'x' in it? I don't need any code, just a check.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Once you have saved the template and opened it back up, you should b
able to put a check in the box with the mouse. Also, if the user tab
to each section to fill in the information, when they get to th
cehckboxes, hitting the space bar will put the check in the box.
Hope that helps

Ahhh! That's my mistake, I was saving it as a document (.doc), I'll sav
it as a template and give it a go....silly me!

Thanks for your help

Did you protect the document for forms (Tools>Protect
Document, click Forms, type an [optional] password, click
OK)?

Take a look at how it is done on the fax templates that come with Word.

Hi

Any other ideas, I saved it as a Template then opened it as a documen
based on the template....still can't put checks in the boxes. I had th
boxes inside a frame so I tried removing the frame but it still didn'
work. I also made sure that the checkbox is enabled.

I'm using Word 2002, is there something else I need to 'set' for it t
work?

Any help would be most appreciated

Did you read the other responses to your post. Ah, you're using Rubin's
crappy website so you probably have not seen them yet. Why don't you use
Outlook Express and connect directly to the newsgroups on
msnews.microsoft.com.

To get checkboxes like those in the built-in FAX templates, you do not use
the Forms toolbar because these are not online forms.

Use File => New until you can see the icon for one of the FAX templates.
Click on the "new template" option to create a new template based on the
built-in one. (Bottom right of dialog box)

Save this template, even though it may look nothing like what you want. It
has your checkboxes and all the components you'll need. These components
are: 2 AutoText Entries, 2 macros, and the checkboxes in your template.

These checkboxes are actually MacroButton fields. When you double-click on
one, it activates a macro that inserts the alternative (checked or
un-checked) macrobutton field in its place. These alternative fields are
kept in the AutoText. It is slick and works well but is a bit tough to build
from scratch.

Reformat your template to have whatever setup you want and move the
checkboxes to where you want them. Alternatively, copy the macros and
AutoText to your own template and insert the AutoText entries (unchecked
box, I think) where you want checkboxes.

You can add the following to an AutoNew and AutoOpen macro in your templates
if you want:
Options.ButtonFieldClicks = 1

This makes the checkboxes respond to a single rather than a double click.
(Actually it makes all macrobutton fields respond to one click.)

I love these ngs because I learn something new all the time.

I don't have any use for the fax templates, but the calandar
tab proved useful... it's a table that is very easy
manipulated because everything is in text boxes. In about a
minute, I'd changed the fonts & font sizes, moved the year
text box to the top, eliminated a row and increased the size
of the cells.

Woo Hoo! What a time saver!
Check & double check!
