Creating a password for network

I have a desktop running vista home, and a laptop running XP. I have internet
through a cable modem and a wireless router. the laptop is wired into the
router and the laptop runs wirelessly.

I want to set up the network so that I can keep my wireless network
available to others to use for the internet, but don't want them to have
access to my computers. I also want to be able to have full access to my
desktop from my laptop (and ideally vice versa). How can i setup full access
w/password on my networked computers?
