Delete and mark as read works in my copy of outlook 2003... what type of
email acct do you have? I tested it on a pop3 account - I don't think mark
as read works reliably on IMAP.

POP3. Just a normal account. Well, I have three of them, actually. Most of the
junk though, comes in via one account where the ISP has a fairly poor filtering
system.

Stop processing won't make a difference, but Moving rather than deleting
could. My test rule was Delete it and mark read- they moved to the Deleted
folder and were marked read.

The "move to specified folder" without the "stop processing" is what I think
is causing the problem.

I'd choose the "delete it" action instead of the "move it to the specified
folder"action, but it should perform both actions. However, try also
including the "stop processing more rules" action as well.

Thanks. I've changed them all to reflect that.

I know that this sounds like a silly question but what does the "stop
processing.." option do? Put it this way, what happens if I don't have that
option set? Or why should I have it set?

Stop processing prevents additional rules from acting on the message that is
affected by the current rule - if the criteria for both rule #1 and rule #2
apply to a message and rule #1 has stop processing, rule #2 won't act on the
message even though it meets the criteria of rule #2.

OK. Thanks.
