Creating a calendar summer for data

A

Andrew

Hello everyone,

Please excuse me if this is not the proper room, but I am
looking to chart some data from within Excel.

Here is a basic example of the data:

Item A, Mar 1, 5
Item A, Mar 1, 3
Item A, Mar 2, 5
Item A, Mar 3, 10
Item B, Mar 2, 10
Item B, Mar 3, 3
Item B, Mar 3, 2

I would like to create a chart that shows one line per
item number, followed by it's transaction qty in the
proper date cell:

Item Mar 1 Mar 2 Mar 3
ItemA 8 5 10
ItemB 10 5

I would appreciate any and all help that can be provided.

Hi Andrew -

Your data is the appropriate format for input data to a pivot table. Put
headers over the columns:

Item Date Number
Item A Mar 1 5
Item A Mar 1 3
Item A Mar 2 5
Item A Mar 3 10
Item B Mar 2 10
Item B Mar 3 3
Item B Mar 3 2

Select the range and create a Pivot Table (from the Data menu). Drag
Item to the rows area, Date to the Columns area, and Number to the Data
area. The result is just what you asked for, with totals (which can be
removed from the Table options on the PT floating menubar):

Sum of Number Date
Item Mar 1 Mar 2 Mar 3 Grand Total
Item A 8 5 10 23
Item B 10 5 15
Grand Total 8 15 15 38
