Create a shared calendar for a department

I would like to create a shared calendar on the Exchange server viewable only
by a certain department. The intended use of this calendar is to know when
someone is going on vacation, will be out for training, etc. I applied
sharing and necessary permissions to only those in the department.

I have viewed the Shared Calendar training and followed its steps but this
did not help my desired outcome.

How can I go about this.

Thanks,

So what specifically is not working for you?

A public folder Calendar should work.

Could you be more specific? Will this "public folder Calendar" be visible to
anyone outside of the department?

Thank you,
Cheri

I believe you can put permissions on a public folder to allow only the
people you want to be able to access it.

Another track you may want to take is to show them how Group Schedules work
as it shows them live data from ach person's Calendar. So it doesn't rely
on people doing double entry to the shared calendar. Both work fine BTW.

I've been trying to find a really clean solution to what you guys are asking,
without using 3rd party products.

It really is too bad where you can't create a public (folder) calendar and
associate different people's calendars into it. It would just be a link and
there wouldn't be duplicate entries in calendars. So you would create a new
appointment but avoid the step where you invite the public calendar.

Seems like the logical thing to do. Myself I simply want to have a public
calendar as everyone's mailbox calendar. It's a small office and there is no
need to have a personal calendar.

Maybe logical to you, but not so easy to program, especially when you thrown in all the PDA sync utilities.

And I think you might have a rebellion on your hands if you didn't allow people to keep their own calendars.
