crashing games desperate

mags

I am still having big problems with games crashing since
installing Windows XP. I have followed all the advice
given to me on previous posts about this and I am still
having crashes especially with Diablo LOD. I am now
desperate as to what to do. These are the things I have
done to try to put it right:-
1. Uninstalled and re-installed Windows XP
2. Uninstalled and re-installed Diablo LOD and any other
games that I play including re- downloading any patches.
3. Updated all drivers for graphics, sound, chipsets and
bios.
4. Changed graphics card.
5. Changed hard disc.
When I had Windows ME I never had any problems playing
games, I am now desperate as to what to do next.

Hi Mags,

1. If there are any specific error messages please post them here.

2. Dust your fans, vents and components using a 1/4" paintbrush
and a hose vacuum. Use compressed air for hard to reach places.
Set a housefan to blow cold air into your case to expose an over-
heating issue.. If it works add more fans or replace defective ones.
Use this Motherboard Monitor Utility: http://mbm.livewiredev.com

3. A faulty power supply can cause STOP errors, random reboots,
and black screen lockups. One way to test for that is to check the
wattage sticker on your power supply and then calculate your need
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ (Min. 350 for gaming)

4. Test your RAM using: http://www.memtest86.com/memt30.zip
after you extract that zip file, click on the README.txt file for the
instructions on how to create the boot floppy to test your RAM.
If you don't have a floppy drive use Microsoft's new Ramtest CD: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

I have cleaned and dusted inside PC. I have front and
rear fans working.
The error message I get come up often is:-
Diablo II Exception
Unhandled Exception
Access_Violation (c0000005)

I get crashes playing Emperor Rise of theMiddle Kingdom,
this has no error message just crash to desktop. All the
crashes are very random, I can be playing the game or
have the game on pause and it will happen.

Well I have passed the RAM tests, and power supply should
be a minimum of 276 and mine is 300. I have sent an e-
mail to Blizzard in desperation to an answer to this, I
have read the links you gave me to do with the error
message I get up and most of the things there I have
done.
Thanks for all your help, if I solve this I will let you
know. :):):):)

Hi Jimmy,
I am pleased to say I have solved my crashing problem. I
decided in desperation to swap the memory from my PC to
the memory I have in another PC and I have had no crashes
since. :):):) Although all tests I did on compatibility
had come out fine there was obviously some sort of
problem that didnt show up.
I did get a reply from Blizzard telling me to try all
sorts of things but I had already done them.
So if anyone else has this problem (particually with
Diablo LOD) tell them to try changing the memory in their
PC.
Many thanks for all your help.
Mags :):):):)

Thanks & Good luck Mags! I hope this gets sorted

Cheers,
Jimmy.

| Well I have passed the RAM tests, and power supply should
| be a minimum of 276 and mine is 300. I have sent an e-
| mail to Blizzard in desperation to an answer to this, I
| have read the links you gave me to do with the error
| message I get up and most of the things there I have
| done.
| Thanks for all your help, if I solve this I will let you
| know. :):):):)
