G

every time I try to add an item to my calendar, the program crashes with a
message of had to close because of an error.

PDA can synch with all the stuff in outlook except for the calendar, too.
All my old canendar stuff is there, just can't add any new items.

TIA

Is this an Exchange mailbox or a .PST file?

Try running the Inbox Repair Tool against your .PST file to see if it finds
any errors. Search your drive for a file called scanpst.exe and run it.
Allow the program to make a backup of your file before it makes any changes.

Hmmm, I can't find any .pst files with the search function. Searching
on pst (no period) finds a handfull of files, but none with the pst
extension. Running scanpst.exe and specifying outlook.pst as the
target gives the file not found message.

Thanks

Turn on searching hidden files when looking for the .pst file. You can also
see the path to the file by choosing File->Data File Management.

Ummm, yes I found outlook.pst as a hidden file. Scanpst found errors
in it, repaired them, and saved a backup, but outlook still crashes
out when I try to enter something into the calendar. Even after
rebooting...

No luck, sigh. I ran scandisk a few times, ran scanpst alternately, it
finding no errors, ran a freeware pst fixer, but putting a new entry
into calendar causes Outlook to close with an error.

If the problem is in my pst file, can I just remove it and let outlook
build a new one, or is there an "empty" outlook.pst that I neeed to
start with?

You can certainly create a new one using New | Outlook Data File, and then
you can copy data from your old one to it. I don't know how many calendar
items you have but you might want to try copying them one by one and see if
any of them make Outlook crash in the new .PST file.

I made a new data file, now I have a new calendar that is completely
empty. If I try to make an entry in this new calendar, the Outlook
closes with an error and the entry is not added, just like my old
calendar does.

This suggests that the problem is not in the .pst files.

OK...then try creating a new mail profile from scratch via Control Panel |
Mail | Show Profiles. Once you've done that, create a new .PST file and see
if that calendar folder works.
