Hi
I have exactly the same problems.
CPU usage goes to 100% after the computer has been turned
on for a while, esp if idle. Program SYSTEM (PID 4) seems
to eat upp all awailble CPU resources and really starts
to heat the CPU up
Sometimes it takes then forever for the PC to shut down
and then sometimes it just restarts itself
This shutting down problem has been for awhile (but not
so bad) but the CPU usage is new, started this weekend. I
downloaded some updates from Microsoft, can't remember
what, but nothing critical.
Hope you have some solutions, or at least some ideas
where to look for them.
Ending SYSTEM in task manager does nothing, SYSTEM just
returns, ending the relevant process-tree causes system
crash

Cheers

I have the same problem to, but monitoring it over a period of time shows that it actually cycles between 0 to 100 and back to 0 over about a minute. Any help from anyone (Microsoft??) would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking pretty hard for a while, but cannot seem to find any (useful) info anywhere
