Could not perform this operation...

I'm using MS Office 2003.

I can send email and receive it.

But if I click on an email address on a web page (mailto:...), I receive a
message, "Could not perform this operation because the default email client
is not properly installed." My computer then opens perhaps 100 instances of
Internet Explorer, in rapid succession.

Anyone know what causes this, and how it's fixed?

Thanks.

Have you tried IE's Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings?

Well, I tried the Detect and Repair, which didn't fix the problem. However,
IE's Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Reset Web Settings *DID* fix it.

I'm not sure which settings it reset, or how they had been changed, but now
I can click on a mailto: link on a web page without getting a hundred
browsers opening...

Thanks to both KOrman and Brian Tillman. :)

It resets, among other things, the associations of the various URL
introducers, like "http:" and "mailto:", which is what I suspected was
fouled up.
