Could Not Lock File

I get the following message whenever I try to open my access database, "could
not lock file". I am running Access 2003 on a Windows XP Pro platform. Any
help in getting this resolved would be greatly appreciated.

A little more information please. Is this a shared file? Is it on your
own machine of used over a LAN? Do you have full access rights to the
directory where the file is located?
