Corrupted INF file

Good day...here's my problem...I've got kids.
It seems that, unknown to anyone of course, that there have been changes
made to the <SYSOC.inf> file in <C:\Windows\Inf>...
now I can't access the add\remove programs in my control panel...the error
message I recieve reads...<Value creation failed " at line 472>...My
question is...does anyone know where the inf files might be located on the
XP home cd? Can I extract the file I need or is it only created during
installation? I searched my cd and came up with nothing...
I'm running a dell dimension 5200...c/w re-installation disc...If I need to
re-install can I do it easily enough over the existing installation?

Thanks for any input

Your suggestion was well and good...I downloaded and installed
ServicePack2...copied the SYSOC.inf file from \...\...\i386 to my inf
folder...problem solved...
Thanks again jopa66...your suggestion was invaluable

You're welcome. I was going to suggest copying from another machine but, I
have no idea what that file does so did not want to give a bad suggestion.
Glad you're fixed up.
