corrupted hal.dll

Just loaded XP into new computer and had it working for a
few days and then I get a corrupted hal.dll when I try to
boot up.

I used recovery console with the bootcfg cmd and /rebuild
cmd as well as everything else I can think of with no
luck, says access denied. Is there anyway I can place a
hal.dll in the system32\hal.dll folder on my c drive? I
am the admin but did not create a password yet because I
was just installing my OS.

Also there was nothing in the bootcfg /list nothing at
all..

help no computer!!!

Thanks

Thanks I appreciate it, but have tried all of the things
on that site. Access denied is the error message.

Would using the 6 floppies to setup XP home edition be
worthwhile? Or is that the same as using the CD?

Thanks again
