Corrupt system hive preventing startup

M

Mr Rubbs

Hi,
I'm new to Windows XP(<1 month), and I'm having to use
Ms Knowdege base article 307545 "How to Recover from a
Corrupted Registry That Prevents Windows XP from
Starting", far too much(almost daily!). The problem seems
to be after playing C&C Generals(mostly but not
exclusively!), and not having a clean log off/shutdown.
When the PC is restarted XP tells me it couldn't start due
to a corrupt/missing \windows\system32\config\system.
I'm up to date with fix's/patches etc and don't have
many other problems, but this is driving me nuts!
Is there any way to ensure/force XP to write a good copy
of SYSTEM?
Any help would be Great,
Thanks in advance frm Dave.

Make sure system restore is on in case any important files are getting
corrupted. Right click on your hard drive, and click Properties, then Tools,
then Scan Disk. Check both tick boxes and then run scan disk. You'll
probably have to restart to do it outside of windows.
This will correct any disk errors.
Also, are you using NTFS or FAT32. NTFS is known to be more stable and more
resilient.
