I have 2 "corrupt shotcuts" on my desktop, when I try to delete them a
message appears that reads "cannot delete, please make sure the disc is not
full or write protected" or words to that effect. Can anyone please help

If these items are not part of a virus or other malicious software, they
can be removed relatively easily.

Step One: Try to delete them in Safe Mode.

Hi steve1968,

Boot into Safe Mode and see if you can then delete the shortcuts. If not,
boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt. The shortcut names would have an LNK
extension (eg., shortcut.lnk). If you're not familiar with DOS commands, when
at the command prompt, you should be at the C:\Documents and
Settings\<Username> directory....change to the Desktop directory by keying in:
cd Desktop
hit ENTER
This should place you at:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Desktop
Now key in, one shortcut at a time:
del <shortcut name>.lnk
hit ENTER

When finished, restart the computer.

Hi Patti,
Have tried your method and Leonard Grey's, Cannot delete in safe mode and
using command promt I get notification that the file cannot be found. I have
not evidence of viruses/spyware etc....
Any other ideas I could try

Was not able to return to this thread until now, and I see that Leonard Grey
has offered you a solution that worked. I'm glad that you got the problem
sorted :)
