Corrupt registry key

My computer recently had an error during start up. The message said
that the registry key storing the location of the desktop is corrupt. I
know the path for the desktop and my documents folders, but I can't
find the corrupt registry key that I need to change to fix the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
