Hi my recycle bin on the c drive has become corrupt. I tried to use system
restore but nothing has helped. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can
delete or rebuild my recycle bin without reinstalling the whole system? or is
there a way to repair windows like there was in xp without losing all my
programs?

Make sure you can see hidden- and system files. In computer, click on
your c: drive and locate the file $Recycle.bin and delete it. Click
'yes' to the warning. A new $Recycle.bin file will be created.

I had the same problem, and tried this solution, but it doesn't work.

Running Win Vista Home Premium Edition on a new ThinkPad T61.

I accidentally deleted the Recycle Bin (RB) icon from the desktop, then
got it back OK ... only now it stays empty, and anything I delete goes
away forever.

Yep, the RB properties are set correctly.

Here's an odd twist ... if I delete a file from Windows Explorer, the
file deletes permanently ... but if I drag it to the desktop and delete
it from there, it correctly ends up in the RB!

I've scoured Google for a fix, found none.

I tried

Help??

I had the same problem and this worked for me:-

1. Right click on the Desktop and select "Personalize"
2. On the left side of the box choose "Change desktop icons"
3. At the top of the box I found that the Recycle Bin was not selected.
I selected the Recycle Bin.
4. After selecting OK I found that the Recycle Bin was restored to the
desk top and worked fine.

I hope that this works for you too.

Thanks, Stan, but your directions are for restoring the Recycle Bin icon
to the desktop, not to fix a corrupt RB ... I tried it anyhow, but no
go. My RB still won't work correctly; it eats every file that is deleted.

Right click the RB and select Properties and uncheck the Do not
move..............
