Corrupt database

I tried to compact/repair my database but I get the message "Cannot open
database 'xxx'. It may not be a database that your application recognizes,
or the file may be corrupt." I just created this database recently. I tried
to create a new database & import the tables & reports into the new
one.....but that gives me the same error. I'm using Windows XP & have also
been getting many errors where Access just quits responding when I try a
print preview or something. Then I get the error report of course. I've
sent the report, but haven't gotten any solutions yet. This is happening a
lot lately & I have lost many changes because of it. Could this problem,
whatever it is, be what's corrupting my database? Any help?

Review the corruption information I have accumulated here:

I would try importing all the tables into a new container first.
Any error or problems?
Then try importing one other object at a time.
Any errors or problems?
If you get an error on one particular object you might
need to recreate that one object from scratch in the new container.

Ok, this time I tried to just open a blank database to try your suggestion.
The first thing I did was try to compact & repair it & I got the same
message. How could it not be a database that my application recognizes when
it just created it ? Or corrupt? There's no tables or anything in it yet.
I just checked another computer on the network that is having some issues
with his computer locking up when doing a 2nd save in Excel....but it seems
to work on his computer. Anyway, this really puzzles me.....any ideas? When
he's done re-installing Excel, I will get the CD from him & try to re-install
Access.
