Corrputed PST file in Outlook

I have an issue where if I touch my pst it seems to hang the system. When
OUTLOOK 2007 starts up, it produces an error message about the file. Then in
a few minutes I no longer have mouse control and my system seems to have
stopped processing. I cannot even get the task manager up.

I have downloaded a 3rd party recover tool and it also hangs when it
touches the pst. I have tried to copy the PST to another external hard drive
and it also hangs the system.

Are there any options left to try and save this PST?

I am running XP with Office 2007. I have looked in the COMMON FILES and
could not find this program. Do you know where I can find it or download it
from?

Thanks. Found it in Office12. I ran it and it stops at 9% in 1 section File
Scan. Then in a few minutes my system once again freezes.

Is this data file a new one that was created when Outlook 2007 was installed
or is it one that was created in a version of Outlook that was pre OL2003?
ie Have you upgraded outlook from OutlookXP to OL2003 then to OL2007?

This was/is a 2007 pst. I did not like the look of my original pst so I
created a new one and then imported my previous emails into my new pst.

one interesting note. I had music playing when the file was being scanned
in phase1. When it hit the 9% point, the music continually played the same
few bars. So I feel there must be some sort of loop going on. The music I
was playing was on a different hard drive. I am going to try a McAfee scan
on the file and see if there is any virus I did not catch. Otherwise, I am
not sure what to do next to save this file. It may be lost.

I have noticed that the last action I did was to change the name of the
catagory GREEN to EDUCATION. It is always being displayed on the bottom
right hand side of my outlook screen. Changing GREEN CATAGORY to EDUCATION
