CopyMessageBox

Hi all,
Just came across this nifty little tool called: CopyMessageBox
http://www.our-class.net/mmchristen/copymsgbox.php

From the website:
CopyMsgBoxText allows you to easily copy texts or screenshots of message
boxes and dialogs into the clipboard.
Useful for documentation/bug reports etc: Instead of copying a messagebox's
(or any dialog's) text by hand, simply strike a key (configurable to your
choice) - and the text is copied to the clipboard. The "Paste" command of
your editor inserts the message to your document!
License: FREEWARE

First time I have seen a program like this.
Very unique I think.

Regards,
Tim

If you run Windows 2000 or XP, you can hit Ctrl-C on most dialogs or
message boxes to copy the text to the clipboard.

Or use alt + prt Scr
to copy top window to clipboard?

And <Alt-PrintScreen> will copy the focussed window, dialog box or
otherwise. (<Ctrl-PrintScreen> will copy the whole desktop.) -- At
least on my Win98SE system.

Thanks for the info. FYI - here's another one that copies text:

http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?500000010955

"TextGrabber copies the textual information out of windows that are
notoriously difficult or impossible to copy (such as Explorer windows
and tree controls). It will extract the text from list controls, tree
controls, combo boxes, edit controls, listboxes, status bars, headers,
and tab controls, and a few other window types."

Yes, TextGrabber has come in handy for me in the past.
However, I found that in XP it does not work as well as in Win95.
I found that then sometimes Count Characters works better.

http://www.funduc.com/otsoft.htm#countchars
for Windows 95/98/ME NT/2000/XP

"Count Characters allows you dump the contents of various combo, edit,
list boxes, static, and button fields to the clipboard. The program can
also reveal the plain text counterpart to some Windows password edit
fields. Count Characters can come in handy for browser lists and various
items displayed by other applications to which you otherwise have no
access. For example if some site asks you to only enter a certain amount
of data in their fields but don't tell you that you went over until it's
too late, Count Characters can be helpful.

Count Characters is also interesting showing you a little about how
applications are built. The Count Characters dialog, for example,
displays what type of controls are being used by a program.

The dialog is maximizeable & minimizable and you can use Ctrl+C to put
the name of the control followed by the contents of the control into the
clipboard. count of the number of words being put into the clipboard."

For instance, it lets me copy Windows Find's search results in tabs
delimited format.

Hi Sietse,

Nice one! Thank you. :)

I've added URLs to that page - it still needs more organization.

I think a discussion of text helper apps would be interesting - which
are the most useful, which have unique capabilities etc. There are lots
and lots of stripper apps but ones that do other things seem to be less
common.

Yes, but all you have is the graphic. One application for this is to
grab the text of an error msg, for search on Microsoft Technet or google
groups. Otherwise, you are typing the message in by hand which is a
pain and can be prone to mistakes.

When I capture screen it saves in a large 4700 b or so and therefore takes a
lot of memory. That makes it difficult attimes to send through --or forward
in an email. I just use MWsnap3 to copy full window, full screen, or size
it and save as a small jpeg........easier to send through email and also
takes up less memory

Here is the link. It may not be exactly what ya need, but a great utility.
