I'm not sure I understand what you're asking for here. If you use PPS format
(File|Save As|PowerPoint Show), the file will open in show view and you
won't see the notes.
2. how to copy PP presentation to CD without 'read-only' restriction

You can't. It's inherent in the way CD-ROMs work. ROM stands for "read only
memory."

1. Try right clicking during an active presentation. One of two things will
happen ...

1) You will be shown a menu of options. Select Screen and then Speaker
notes. These are not formatted but do show you the notes during a show.
This menu can also be accessed if the mostly transparent controls are
visible in the lower left corner of the slide show by clicking on the third
one in that looks a bit like a square.

2) If you right click on a slide and back up one slide (or animation) and
you want to change it to right click showing a menu of options instead,
click on Tools => Options => View (tab) => Slide Show (section) and uncheck
the 'Show menu on right mouse click' box. Then you can use the above method
to display the slide notes on the audience screen during a presentation.

There are multiple other ways to do something like this using triggers, but
this is probably the simplest.

You put anything onto a CD, it is going to be Read Only. Once you write your
information to the CD, and close. It can no longer be written to. So Read
Only. If you want to remove the Read Only, You have to copy the file to your
HD, and remove it there.

Oh, you know, I just thought of this -- some of the CD burning applications
have software that lets you use a CD/DVD drive just like a regular hard
drive. (You're just asking for corrupt files if you use them that way,
though.) I wonder if that's what the poster is talking about? I don't know
if that marks things as "read only" or not.

Otherwise, I stand by what you and I said. ;-)

Yeah, RW (rewriteable) CDs can be touchy this way. And certain computers and
CD/DVD drives and software seems to be more particular than others. And then
there's that whole CD-as-Hard-Drive thing. It's probably better to erase the
whole thing and start over anyway -- but I'd recommend that once you get a
final version (assuming you're creating an autorun CD?), you burn it on a
regular "R" CD (one that can't be rewritten) and make sure to "close the
session" (so more information can't be written to the CD). That should help
with compatibility, although that isn't as much an issue as it used to be.

Out of curiosity, which PPT Help topic are you reading?

OK THANKS, I understand. PPT "HELP" states that I can save an updated
version on the CD by giving it a new name.... but that does not work. I
have
to firs erase the old file, then save a new version.... AND often (not
always) the CD will not save anything in addition to the file already on
there and forces me to ERASE the whole CD and start over with saving
certain
files (to make them transportable for use somewhere else). I never had
those
issues with my older HP Pavilion; my Gateway laptop is giving me fits in
this
respect (similar with Excel files).

thanks for your comments guys,

As a general rule, it's a really good idea NOT to do this. Work from your hard
drive and save copies to CDs when you need to make CDs. When you leave a CD
"open" (that is, leave it so you can keep writing to it) you almost guarantee
that it won't be compatible with many other computers and (from reading posts
here) it seems that you also court trouble on your own system.

If it were mine, I'd set the CD software up so that it always closes the cd (ie,
you can only add files the one time). CDs are nearly free; your data's
valuable. Why take chances? ;-)

FWIW, CD's by nature are not designed to use like a hard drive. They are
meant as a one time thing. Unless you are using the CDRW's, which I do not
put much faith in, having lost data from this type.
