Copy/Paste into Excel; how do you keep leading zeros?

J

Simple example:

Suppose you have some data typed in Notepad. It looks like this:

001
002
010
006
003

Select the data, copy it and paste it into a spreadsheet. You will see the
leading zeroes get dropped. Is there a way to keep the integrity of the
data when doing a copy/paste into Excel?

This is a very simplistic example. I copy/paste data into Excel all the
time and all my data with leading zeroes gets altered. It is a real pain to
have to reformat all this over and over again. Is there a way to prevent
htis from happening?

Any info would be greately appreciated.

Select the column you want the data to appear in, and then Format > Cells >
Click on custom, and in "type" enter however many figures you want to
appear, so if you want a total of 4, enter 0000; then if the number say 36
is entered, it will then appear as 0036 and 2 would appear as 0002 etc.

Hope that helps?
