hi
when i copy dat in cell a1 in sheet1 (which is merged with cells b1 and c1)
to cell d4 in sheet2, i get the message "data has to be same shape / size",
although the dat fill fit into the destination cell. is there a way to
overcome this?

Just another bite of reality on the world of "Merged Cells". I would
un-merge the cells you are copying and use "center across selection". They
should copy and paste better. Hope this helps!

just for interest's sake - what i did, that seems to work, is to insert the
same number of rows as are merged in source cell, then set the combined
column width of the (say 6 rows) the same as the original one was. it seems
as if the number of columns just have to be the same as source, even though
the destination 6's width is much less than source.

Glad you got it figured out, and thanks for posting your solution.
