Copy CD direct to CD?

I have tried Using My Computer and selecting the CD drive to then Copy all
and 'sending' to the burner drive which it does and burns etc using the copy
wizard BUT the tracks are unreadable - not the correct format for WMP to play
them. What jhave I done wrong and can I then Copy/Burn direct to the CD
without 'ripping' to the HDD first?

I wanted to do away with third party products like Nero which I have used in
the past.
