On my old laptop I have Win98 and IE5.5sp2. On this new
laptop I have WinXP and IE6. On the old laptop I had it
set up to Prompt for cookies. I could then decline many
cookies that I did not want on my pc. It worked find.
However, on this new pc (WinXP/IE6) I notice that some
sites will not allow me to enter when I turn down their
cookies (this site for example - Microsoft boards). I
have to click that I want to accept ALL cookies from this
site. When I do that, I can then access the site.
Is this something new with WinXP/IE6? I am getting into
these sites (as far as I know) on my other
Win98/IE5.5sp2, when I decline to accept the cookies.
Please adisve and thanks. We are senior citizens, so
kindly explain simply. Thanks.

Good reading on cookies.

Blocking Unwanted Cookies with IE 6
There are several new features built-in to IE 6, one of them is the ability
to accept and\or block any or all cookies if desired.

Cookies are not you worse enemy, what is the reason you do not accept
cookies?

Cookies are not you worse enemy, what is the reason you do not accept
cookies?
--
I don't want to accept cookies from every site I visit.
They just clutter up my hard drive. M
My question, however, was why some sites (such as this
one) will not allow you to enter (while using IE6) unless
you accept their cookies, while if I am using IE5.5 I can
enter this site without accepting all their cookies? It is
just a question I am asking for anyone who might have an
answer.

(IE 5.5 also allows you to accept or block cookies.)
