Converting ASCII comma delimited

B

Billy the brick

I have a file from the Australian Bureau of Statistics
which is in excel, but is ASCII comma delimited.

None of the usual excel functions will recognise the
numbers as anything but text. Copying the numbers into a
new worksheet retains their ASCII status, and formating
the numbers from general to number makes no difference.

Does anyone know how I can convert this ASCII comma
delimited into a format that Excel will recognise ?

Hi,

Select the numbers (onme column at the toime) and choose
Data, text to columns, fixed, finish.

This assumes the numbers have the same decimal separator
as is set in your woindows regional settings, number tab!

If not, do a S&R replacing all dots with comma's or vice
versa.
