Converting analog VHS tapes to DVD

This is my goal. I'm looking at Windows Movie maker to capture all of my
old family movies. I'm not really sure if this is the way to go.

Once I import them and I write them out onto a DVD disc.

WILL they play on my DVD player?

Since I'm just starting I want to know if I'm headed in the right direction.

Thank you,

Yes, you're heading right.... but you'll need other DVD software, as Movie
Maker isn't involved in the process of authoring or burning DVDs... unless
you have the MCE2005 version of XP.

I have a great computer to work with. It has 2 hard drives. (1 for all
programs and operating system and the other for working w/ movies.)
It has WindowsXP media center edition w/ a TV tuner card and there is a DVD
burner .

I have been having audio problems with the video import through the TV card.
(I'm converting from analog VHS) doing the video capture in the sound is
not importing at the same time.

(I'm actually not on the computer today but I've been doing some reading and
think I know what the problems are.)
I'm reading a lising from : 7/8/05 What will it look like on my TV? AND
I'm getting some ideas from there.

Thank you for your help!

Debby,

If you don't get the TV card sound capture working correctly, you might try
using a DV camera with analog to firewire (IEEE 1394) pass-through to
convert your VHS tapes. If you don't have one chances are you know someone
who does. Of course your would have to have a firewire port also.
