convert text typed into a prompt box to number

Hi ... I have a prompt box that pops up when running a report ... it captures
the previous month's subtotal ... I put the format property to currency but
it doesn't display that way ... it displays as though it were text because it
doesn't show dollar sign, decimals and doesn't right align ... I looked up
functions to convert ... don't know if that can do that for a prompt ... but
couldn't find anything ... any help on this one??

I can't tell from your description whether the prompt pops up because
there's a control in the report that asks for the value, or whether the
query that runs "behind" the report is doing the prompting.

Hi Jeff ... its from a prompt box being run at execution time of the report
.... i.e this particular field has no underlying source ... thanks, Tina

I must be a bit slow this afternoon...

Are you saying that you have an unbound control on your report that has as a
control source, something like:

=[Enter the previous month's subtotal]

and that you've modified that control's properties in design view to format
the control to display as currency?

If you've done all this, I at a loss for why this would happen.
