CONVERT FROM WXP TO W2K

W

Wendy Oliver

Hello all:

I am requesting assistance in changing a computer that
came pre-loaded with Windows XP to the Windows 2000
operating system. Our network users are all on W2K. How
do I perform this conversion without losing all of my pre-
loaded drivers and hardware-related programs?

Thank you in advance.

Wendy

You will have to wipe it and start from scratch. There might be a drivers
folder on the hard drive that you can copy first but you can just as easily
download the hardware drivers from the manufacturer website.

Hi Wendy,

I had the same problem. Microsoft have made it so you can't run Winnt32
from within XP, so the only option is to nuke it and start again. You
have to ensure there are Win2k drivers for your hardware before you do
this. Some laptops only work with XP.

appropriate boot disk, format the hard drive, and install. There is
no supported downgrade path or technique.

A pointless restriction to stop people easily switching to a superior O/S.

Greetings --

So, can you name a single operating system in use today that
allows for the in-place downgrade to an older operating?

Greetings --

You're quite wrong, you know. None of those operating systems you
mentioned, or any other that I've ever heard of, allow down-grading.
The reasons are entirely technical.
