Convert fat to fat32

Paul

Hey people,

I've installed MS-DOS 6 (on the 1st partition which is 2048 Mb)and
after that I installed WinXP. So far so good. But now I want to
increase my first partition (using pqmagic) and to do that, first
convert fat to fat32. PROBLEM! After I convert fat to fat32 the os
doesn't boot anymore. It says it isn't bootable... Anyone who can help
me with this???

Well, DOS only supports 2GB partitions.. There inlies your problem. You
could use Win98 DOS (v7.X I believe) if you have a 98 license and SYS the
drive with that - that way you still get a "version" of DOS, but one that
supports FAT32. Previous versions of DOS do NOTY and WILL NOT support
FAT32. Another option, if I remember correctly, would be FAT12, which is an
NT thing that allowed DOS partitions to be 4GB in size, but I don't know how
stable that would be.

Why, if you don't mind someone asking, would you need a DOS partition,
particularly a large one?

Actually, FAT12 is the file system used on floppy disks. WinNT's
version of FAT16 supported partitions up to 4 Gb in size.

That was it - I couldn't remember if it was called something else or not.
Thanks Bruce!

Hello Shenan and Bruce, thanks for your help,

I don't need a dos partition, but how am I going to get rid of it now,
without losing my XP installation?
