convert an Access 97 database to Access 2003

I had created an database in Access 97 which includes multiple tables and
forms (no scripts). My computer was recently upgraded and now uses Access
2003. I thought when I tried to open the existing 97 database in Access 2003
it would ask me if I wanted to convert it...but it doesn't. It gives the
message "Can not open a database created with a previous version of your
application". Any suggestions on how to remedy this?

Hi.

I only have Access 2000, so I can't say for sure. However, it seems to me
you could open just Access itself (without opening any specific database),
then navagate through the menus to:
Tools/Database Utilities/Convert Database/To Current Access Database Version.

Be sure to back up your 97 database before doing this. If it works, please
let me know.

You need r/w/modify etc permissions on the folder where
the file is stored. (and also the file has to not be read-only)

You need Access 'open exclusive' permission on the database.

I think there is also a registry setting that prevents convert,
but it's more likely you just have a file or database attribute
or permission problem

Hi Michael,
I tried what you suggested but I ended up with the same message. So maybe
it doesn't work with Access 97?

Hi David,
I checked my permission on the database and it appears I have full control.
So I'm not sure what else I would need? Not sure what you mean by 'open
exclusive' permission?
