control characters 2002

I have a user who lost the ability to use control characters in Office XP. Things like ctrl-c to copy, ctrl-v to paste for the normal style have disappeared. This behavior seemed to start after editing a document that had been created in Spanish Word, but all the settings are for English. The Office Repair Tool was used but did not help... Does anyone know where these settings are kept

Thanks

these settings are kept? These are stored in a global template, the Normal.dot template, or in the
template attached to a document, or in the document itself (in increasing
order of precednece).

If one holds down CTRL while starting up Word on this machine do these
commands work?

If not, do they work outside of Word? In Notepad, for instance?

ISTR that someone with a similar problem solved it by unchecking one little
box, sadly I have forgotten much else. It might have been a box in Tools |
Options, Compatibility tab, something about international characters (I
can't find anything like in my Word, but I don't have XP, and my google
search based on vague memory didn't produce much).

I went back and found it. Thread started by Dmitry Kopnichev, called "how
to change back to ctrl+c?" in November of this year. It seems to be on a
lot of Word groups. Terry Farrell provided this answer

Tools, Options, Edit tab and clear the option Use INS Key for Paste.

Which turned out to be right, but since Dmitry didn't listen the first time,
the thread also contains a lot of other suggestions. Use Google Groups
Advanced Search to find it.

Hi Dayo,
Tools, Options, Edit tab and clear the option Use INS Key for Paste.
Thanks, Dayo. Strange reasoning on the part of MS that the two should
preclude one another...
