Contacts not synchronizing in MOOL

Guest

I've been using MOOL for a couple of weeks now and really like what I'm
seeing. But I've noticed that contacts that I create in Outlook 2003 don't
sync up to MOOL. Any suggestions?

Are you creating them in the message store used by MOOL? Click on the MOOL
toolbar (usually at the bottom of Outlook) and check the sync status.

I clicked on the MOOL toolbar. As long as my hotmail account is the 'active'
account on the right side of Outlook, I can see that Contacts, Calendar and
Mail are all 'connected'.

I'm not sure what the 'message store used by MOOL' is. I created the
contacts in my 'local' outlook folder, not in the 'hotmail' folder.
Shouldn't the contacts synchronize automatically? The calendar syncs (with a
little delay, as the outlook connector periodically connects and updates).

Something else I just noticed. My calendars aren't synchronizing either. As
with contacts, these are calendar entries created in my non-hotmail account.
I thought the 2 calendars were talking to each other, but they've stopped.
I'm doing something wrong, here, but I don't know what it is.

And something ELSE I just noticed. My contacts didn't completely transfer
from my local folder to the MOOL folder. Much of the information didn't
transfer over. Names and phone numbers transfered, but no address, email or
web information.

OK, so clearly I'm very new at this, Diane, and clearly I DON'T know what
I'm doing. Be patient with me.

Unless you use intellisync, MOOL only syncs with the default message store -
which is your local outlook folder.

OK, but that doen't really help me to understand why my local, 'non hotmail'
calendar and contacts don't seem to be syncing with my Hotmail account or
uploading to Outlook Live!.

Can you tell me how to configure Outlook 2003 in such a way that calendar
and contact items that I create in my local, non-hotmail account will sync
with my Hotmail account and (more importantly) with Outlook Live! Should I
set my Hotmail account as my default email and file store accounts? If I do
this, can I create items in my Outlook 2003 calendar/contacts and have them
'transfer' to Outlook Live1?

Please be detaile with your answers. While I enjoy looking at your web
page, it doesn't really address my specific situation

OK, but that doen't really help me to understand why my local, 'non
hotmail'
calendar and contacts don't seem to be syncing with my Hotmail account or
uploading to Outlook Live!.

Because outlook live syncs with the local copy of *its* calendar. If you
want to sync with the 'non-hotmail' calendar, you need to use intellisync.
Can you tell me how to configure Outlook 2003 in such a way that calendar

I could repeat what is already on the web, but that is a lot of typing. You
have two choices - you can to set the mool store as the default. If you
don't know how to do that, see
http://www.slipstick.com/config/defaultpst.htm (it's the default message
store link on the url i posted earlier).

When its set as default all items you create will be added to the mool
message store and sync online. If you check multiple accouts and don't want
all of the mail stored online, you can use intellisync to sync the calendar
in the local personal store you are using now.

From MSN help for intellisync
1.. Go to the Calendar page.
2.. Click Synchronize.
3.. To install Intellisync for MSN on your computer, click Download Now.
4.. When the installation is complete, open Intellisync for MSN from the
Windows Start menu.
5.. Sign in with the e-mail address and password you use for your MSN
subscription account.
6.. Follow the instructions to set up calendar synchronization with
Outlook or a handheld device.

Gee, thanks for the fast response, Diane.

I guess I have some tinkering to do. I've set my Hotmail account to be the
default email account AND the default delivery address. I've installed
Intellisync. Yet when I create a test calendar item in my local 'non
hotmail' calendar, it doesn't show up in my local hotmail calendar or on my
Outlook Live! calendar online. I even set the Intellisync options to have
the sync direction to go 'one way' from Outlook to MSN (using Intellisync's
nomeclature, here).

I'm also getting a 'bad recurrence file' message if I use bi-directional sync.

Like I say, I've got some tinkering to do.

doesn't support or data in fields MSN doesn't support.

it;s working for me with outlook to msn sync - what does the detailed report

Good to know about the errors on recurring appointments.

When I have Intellisync set to go from outlook to msn, the MOOL detailed
report says "Last successfully refreshed at X:XX am or pm". Mail, contacts
and calendar all sync successfully, but Intellisync doesn't move appointments
from outlook to msn (or hotmail, in my case)

Something else I've noticed. The outllook connector tool bar doesn't always
display the calendar as connected. It stays connected in mail and contacts.
But calender kind of comes and goes.

The only thing that worked for me was to uninstall Outlook, Outlook 2003 and
Outlook Connector, then reinstall the whole ball of wax from the CD. I also
took all of my data from Outlook and put it into a folder that Outlook 2003
wouldn't find when it was installing. That was my backup of my data.

I think what happens when you already have Outlook on your computer is that
when you load Outlook 2003, it automatically assumes that the default
calendar, inbox, contacts, etc. are associated with your .pst file. By
moving them away while you are loading Outlook 2003 (essentially giving
yourself a clean install) you can load your Hotmail account as the only
account. I now have one calendar, one inbox, etc, and they are all
associated directly with what is available online.

Now that I think of it, I had already synchronized with Hotmail, so that
when I set up my new account, all of the info was automatically loaded into
my computer. If you haven't been able to do that yet, you can always copy
your calendar, contacts, etc from your local account to your Hotmail account,
then synchronize with Hotmail online, then do the clean install.

You would have gotten the same results if you started of with a new profile;
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles...

There was nothing wrong with your installation but with your configuration.
Reinstalling won't help.
