All your Outlook data (mail, contacts, calendar, tasks, journal, notes,
etc.) are all kept in the same file called the "Personal Folders file" or
PST. Contacts have three mail address fields, "E-mail", "E-mail 2" and
"E-mail 3" into which you can enter mail addresses. The "address book"
service provides a way to resolve contact names you enter into the recipient
fields into the addresses associated with those contacts. Essentially, the
Outlook Address Book is just a view of your Contacts folder. It shows you
the electronic addresses each of your Contacts record have - the three
e-mail address fields, and any fax phone number, since fax numbers are also
electronic addresses.

How can I switch among these multiple email addresses?

Today, I opened contacts by clicking Tools >Address Book>Contacts or
Outlook address book.
When I selected Outlook address book,no entries in the address book.

So I opened the Contacts. I see tons of addresses. So I removed lots of
defunct addresses (with email addresses).
When I opened Contacts folder, there was no change in its list.
That confused me.

If you have Contacts in the Contacts folder but they are not accessible when
you click on the To button, check these settings:

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book is checked?

If this is grayed out...

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or
address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add
it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed, then remove it and close
then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.

If you are using Outlook 2007 and the the checkbox is grayed, you'll need to
make a new profile as you can't add the Outlook Address Book service due to
a bug.
