Constant crashes in XP

Sorry about the length of this question.
Background....I own a small convenience store and the back office connection
with my tills is a programme called "Foodstore Manager" It works in windows
but all of its components work in DOS (all little batch files). The database
is controlled by Borland Database Engine. It was already installed and
working under windows98 when I bought the business. I installed XP over the
top of the old system and everything continued to work fine. Recently I
bought a new computer and had to reinstall the original programme on the new
computer before restoring my backup files to that computer.
Since then I have had nothing but crashes, at least 4 each day. Sometime
while working within Foodstore manager but just as often when doing virtually
anything, even playing freecell.

I have downloaded and ran "windiag" which says my system is fine and then
the computer crashed immediately on restart. There is obviously something
wrong in the software.

Question ... does anyone know of conflicts between Borland database engine
and XP. Or is there any other suggestion as to how to fix my problem.

Your best bet to resolve this problem is to contact the company that
produces Foodstore Manager. Possibly there's an update to the program that
will allow it to run better under XP?

Thanks for the reply "NoStop"
The company is generally unhelpful, and extremely expensive, although they
do say an update is due out soon. I am willing to try the registry cleaner
or ram washer ( i do not know what a ram washer is or does) however I will
research and try.
Thanks again

NoStop was being sarcastic when he mention a registry cleaner. There is
no such thing as a RAM washer.

You may want to revert back to 98 until they come up with an update as
an update it the only thing that will help.
