connectivity problem

Basic computer doofus here, so go easy on me.......

Running Win XP in EMachine pc, to DSL via hub router.

For the last few months I've been having a connectivity problem with my pc.

After the pc sits unused for approximately 5 minutes or so, reconnecting for
email or browsing takes several tries.

Typically, what happens is that I get two timeout/resets when trying to
access, and a connect on the third try. It's annoying, but not fatal.

I went into my event log and found a bunch of these logged errors. I assume
they relate:.

a. }}} your computer was not able to renew its address from the network
(from the DHCP server) for the Network Card with network address
000AE6D1A785. The following error occurred: The semaphore timeout period
has expired. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on
its own from the network address (DHCP server). {{{

b. }}} the IP address lease xxx.xxx.x.xxx for the Netword Card with
network address 000AE6D1A785 has been denied by the DHCP server xxx.xxx.x.x.
(the DHCP server sent a DHCPNACK message) {{{

What should I do to correct this problem?
