Connection Settings w/ New Laptop

I just bought a clearance HP Pavillion zv6000 laptop and am trying to connect
to the internet. I am able to browse the internet with it, but when it comes
to doing any of the following: MSN Live Messenger (Or the old version), MSN
Explorer, downloading Shockwave or games, or even posting on this newsgroup,
it comes up with an error message, or a 404 error.

I am connecting wirelessly to a Linksys WRT54G, and my Toshiba laptop is
running perfectly with it. I think it has something to do with the Firewall
settings on my HP laptop, as this is the error message I receive when logging
in to MSN Live Messenger:
"Windows Live Messenger has made several failed attempts to sign you in.
Your firewall may be blocking Windows Live Messenger from connecting to the
service. Please review your firewall settings. See the retailer's
instructions for more information.

Error Code: 80048820
Extended Error Code: 8004840f"

On other sites, such as this newsgroup, it brings a 404 error. Downloading
Shockwave results in "Network error. Please check your internet connection and
try again"

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

What firewall is in use on your HP? The Windows firewall doesn't block
outbound traffic. If your new computer came bundled with Norton or McAfee,
etc., it's their stuff, most likely - check in Help or with tech support for
the products.
